Setting: yeehaw
History: An orphan of war, Celes was taken in by the Gestahl Empire and used as a magitek experiment when she was only two years old. The experiment proved to be a success, as Celes was now capable of using magic, and Cid took her in as his own daughter.
Despite being forced to join the army at a young age, Celes took comfort in the times she would get to visit Cid’s greenhouses. Many flowers were grown there, including Cid and Celes’s favourite, roses. However, these good times came to a halt when Cid forced Celes to become a Magitek Knight.
During her early time as a General, Celes was in charge of the Imperial attack on the town of Maranda, burning it to the ground and subjugating the town to the Imperial rule. Shortly after the attack on Maranda, Celes saw the Imperial’s pride and joy, Terra. Watching her dispose of 50 soldiers in mere minutes made Celes a bit uneasy and began to question her own loyalty to the Empire.
Eventually becoming disgusted with the Empire, and perhaps even with herself, Celes spoke out against Kefka’s poisoning of Doma and was marked as a traitor. Thrown into South Figaro’s prison, she would be tortured and eventually executed.
That is, until famed “treasure hunter”, Locke Cole, finds Celes during his campaign to stall the Empire and releases her from her prison. Celes, while at first refusing Locke’s help, accompanies him to Narshe and joins The Returners to defend the town from Kefka and his troops.
When Terra flies off in a panic after the battle, Celes and the party travel to Zozo where they meet the esper, Ramuh. He asks them to infiltrate the Magitek Research Facility and free the espers there so that one of the espers can help Terra revert back to her human form. Celes volunteers to lead the group into Vector, where they begin their operation.
After the trip to Vector, Celes and the party go to Jidoor in search of the airship, Blackjack, which is needed for their next operation. The pilot of the Blackjack recently left a note stating that he plans to kidnap the opera star, Maria. Locke notices that Celes bears an uncanny resemblance to the opera singer, and formulates a plan; to have Celes impersonate Maria and let Setzer kidnap her, then take over the Blackjack.
Despite some minor interference with a troublesome octopus, the plan goes successfully and Celes boards the Blackjack with Setzer, who asks for her hand in marriage. Celes, using the two-headed coin given to her by Edgar, makes a bet with Setzer; heads, she gets the Blackjack and tails, she marries him. Of course, she wins the bet but Setzer realizes he has been cheated. Instead of being angry, he is delighted by this turn in events and happily takes the party to the Magitek Research Facility.
Celes and the party free several espers from their captivity, but are unable to save them in time; they die, turning into Magicite. However, when espers turn into Magicite, they are able to pass on their magical power to others, which they rightfully bestow their powers to the Returners.
However, Cid appears from hiding and asks Celes if the rumours of her feigning treachery to join the Returners as a spy were true. Celes denies this, but Locke foolishly believes otherwise, despite Celes’s pleas. During their quarrel, Kefka sends out his soldiers to attack the group. To prove her loyalty, Celes distracts them so that the Returners can make their getaway.
After Terra frees opens the Esper Gate, which causes the espers to rampage and wreck the Empire, Emperor Gestahl calls a truce. He sends General Leo, Shadow and Celes, apparently taking back her rank as a general, to accompany Locke and Terra to Thamasa.
Locke, who is admittedly surprised to see Celes, attempt to talk to her, but she answers to nothing he says. When the Empire-Returner Alliance turns out to be a trap, Kefka arrives with his group of soldiers. They begin to slaughter the espers, taking their magicite and incapacitates the Returners . After Kefka kills General Leo, Celes rejoins the Returners.
When Kefka and Gestahl raises the Floating Continent accompanied by the Warring Triad, the Returners send a team to confront Kefka while Celes tries to reason with them. After they make it to the summit, Gestahl paralyzes the party and tempts Celes with the promise of the three of them ruling the world together. Kefka yells at Celes to kill the Returners; Celes blatantly refuses and stabs Kefka with her sword. However, this simply sends Kefka into a rage and calls upon the Triad for power, which he is granted.
Kefka then kills Gestahl and knocks away the interfering Celes and removes the Triads from their respective positions. Even after Shadow buys time for the Returners to escape, the damage has been done and the world has lost its balance, causing it to go into an apocalyptic state.
Celes wakes from a year long coma to see Cid, who has been taking care of her since she started her yearlong slumber. He explains to her that since Kefka’s disruption of the balance, the world has been slowly declining into a state of ruin and decay. The island they currently reside on only houses himself and Celes; the other island survivors either died or killed themselves.
Cid suddenly begins to fall ill and Celes makes an attempt to care for him, to repay his kindness of looking after her while she was in a coma. Despite her best efforts, Cid passes away and Celes finds herself devastated. Unable to accept the reality of being all alone in the world, Celes goes to a nearby cliff and jumps off of it, committing suicide.
However, she washes ashore, very much alive, and finds a wounded bird. This bird has Locke’s bandana wrapped around it, which gives Celes hope that Locke and the others have survived. Celes heads back to Cid’s house and finds a letter addressed to Celes, directing her to the hidden basement where a raft awaits her. Celes leaves the island and begins to search for her friends.
Celes lands near Albrook and continues north to Tzen, reuniting with Sabin. His safety convinces Celes that the other Returners must still be alive in the world somewhere. The two travel east to Mobliz and find Terra caring for the orphaned children there since Kefka's Light of Judgment destroyed the town. Though they help defend the village from the demon Humbaba, Terra is struggling to understand her budding love for the children and remains in the village. In Nikeah, the leader of the Crimson Robbers bears a suspicious resemblance to Edgar. Following the robbers on their ferry to South Figaro and through a cave into Figaro Castle's engine room, Edgar eventually drops the charade and rejoins the two.
The three use Figaro Castle to burrow east to Kohlingen, where they find Setzer in a drunken stupor since losing the Blackjack in the apocalypse. Celes convinces him to rejoin the fight, and Setzer proclaims they'll retrieve another airship - the Falcon, formerly belonging to his friend Darill. At the depths of Darill's Tomb, Setzer raises the Falcon and the four take to the skies, the new airship filling them with hope that they have a chance to set things right. Eventually the former Returners are reunited, and the group uses the Falcon to land atop Kefka's Tower and confront him as the God of Magic since he has drained the Warring Triad on their strength.
At the tower's summit, the group finds Kefka basking in his power, declaring the lives of mortals meaningless and insignificant. The group rejects Kefka's claims, telling him they've each found meaning in their lives even in the ruined world - Celes cites her ability to find acceptance from Locke. The group engages Kefka and his servants in a final battle. With Kefka's death the tower begins to collapse and magic begins to vanish from the world. Terra uses the last of her powers to lead the group to safety.
On their way out of the tower, Celes dropes the bandane she found on her island runs back for it. The floor gives out, but Locke is there to catch her and bring her to safety (while scolding her for being so foolish).
Personality: At first, Celes seems to be rather icy and cruel. She is independent and is reluctant to ask others for help. Celes is far from helpless and prides herself on her ability to defend herself, as well as others. If you believe Celes to be a weak woman based on appearances, you will be in for a rude awakening by Celes herself; she is not afraid to assert herself or her abilities to others.
However, underneath her cold exterior lies a kind-hearted woman that only wants the best for people. While she doesn’t exactly depend on others for help, she will gladly offer her assistance to anyone that needs it.
Celes is also always willing to protect the innocent, even to the point of putting her own life on the line to save them. Celes also shows great maturity and will always make the right choice, regardless of her personal feelings towards the matter.
However, this can also be self-destructive, since Celes is a very prideful woman. For instance, when Locke offers to free Celes from her prison, she initially argues with him to let her stay, preferring to face her execution with pride rather than run away like a coward. Celes has a lot of pride and thinks she has to do things on her own, and she’s willing to be a martyr for her beliefs. Celes can easily feel depressed if there is no one to save and no ideals to serve, which is reflected on her stay on the Solitary Island, where she loses much hope due to the fact that she thinks she is the only person currently alive in the World of Ruin.
One remarkable thing about Celes is her ability to stay calm, even in the face of danger. She is widely known to be the most tempered warrior in battle. However, she becomes easily flustered when it comes to outlandish requests, such as asking her to perform in an opera. When she does get flustered like this, her determination and pride come into play, making her WANT to do this outlandish requests so exceedingly well. This is also seen when she performs in the opera; despite being flustered, Celes performs so well to the point where people never notice that she's NOT the opera star, Maria.
When Celes makes a friend (while the process may be rather slow), she gives them her unfaltering loyalty. She will be willing to do anything to protect them, even if it means sacrificing her own life. In terms of showing her affection, whether it be on a platonic or romantic level, Celes has some difficulty doing this. She’s rather shy with professing her inner most feelings and will still have trouble even with her closest friends. However, when she does open up to others, Celes is shown to have a more flamboyant personality. She'll start ranting about how she is NOT some love-starved twit and begin opening up more about herself without any prompts.
Celes is also shown to be a sly thinker, often coming up with back-up plans on the spot. She knows what to do and how to get it, and is able to formulate very good plans when need be. This can be seen when she uses the two-headed coin on Setzer and also when she assaults Kefka at the top of the tower.
When Celes feels that she has been betrayed by another, she will be so upset to the point where she will outright refuse to talk to the other person. If this happens, it may be a long time before she forgives them... That is, if she ever chooses to forgive them. Due to her pride, it can take much longer for a person to earn Celes's forgiveness because once Celes's pride has been hurt, it can take a long time for her to rebuild it again.
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Magic: When Celes was just a baby, she was artificially infused with magitek (magic). So like Terra, Celes is able to cast a variety of spells, from offensive to defensive. In order of weakest to strongest, she is able to cast:
Blizzard (weak ice spell)
Cure (weak healing spell)
Poisona (a spell which removes poison)
Imp (a spell which turns someone into an imp or cure the imp status)
Libra (detect a target's HP, MP and weaknesses)
Protect (reduce the amount of physical damage taken)
Haste (speed up the user; makes them faster)
Confuse (confuses the target)
Berserk (causes the target to go into an uncontrollable rage; they are only able to use physical attacks)
Blizzaga (stronger than the standard Blizzard spell), Vanish (causes the target to vanish; will not take any damage)
Hastega (lasts longer than Haste)
Holy (a strong spell that deals holy damage; very effective against dark/shadow enemies)
Flare (a powerful non-elemental spell that ignores an enemy's defenses), and her strongest spell
Meteor (the strongest non-elemental spell; much like Flare where it ignores the enemy's defense)
Along with these spells she learned naturally, Celes is also able to learn magic from Magicite shards. However, due to the lack of espers on the ship, she will not be able to learn those abilities.
Runic: Celes’s special ability, Runic, allows her to absorb the magic attack of an enemy and reflect it back at them. However, this is purely for magical attacks; it will not work with physical attacks, weaponry, etc...
Swordsman: While not a ‘magical’ ability, Celes is an extremely skilled swordsman. She is able to put up a fight against the best of the best.
Weaknesses:
In terms of magic, the casting time takes a minute or two, leaving Celes vulnerable to any attack. Casting higher magic spells also costs more magic points. If Celes takes up most of her magic points, she will begin to feel fatigued. Her MP metre is also not the highest in the game, so if she tries to cast 3 high level spells in succession with no Ether or Elixirs, she will begin to feel tired and may even faint from exhaustion. Also due to her ice affinity, she's weaker to fire magic than any other type.
Also, because her magic is artificial, using it too much may result in deterioration of her sanity. It is shown people with augmented magic have gone insane as they have gotten older. Of course, Celes hasn't experience anything like this yet and feels fine, but this is always a possibility that could happen.
Despite these abilities, Celes is still a normal human. She gets hurt, she bleeds and if an injury is fatal enough to the point where she cannot heal herself, she will die.
Inventory:
[1] Longsword called ‘Save the Queen’
[1] Sword sheath, covered in various patterns
[1] Lovely hairclip covered in white gems
Appearance:

Celes is described as a beautiful young woman with a stern face. She has blue eyes and long, blonde hair that reaches to her bottom. She wears a very lovely hairclip to tie back some of her hair.
Celes is quite tall, measuring up to 5'8" and weighing about 128 pounds, so she's on the skinny side. She is clad in yellow pants and a yellow vest over a dark purple tube top. She wears white, high heeled ankle boots.

The greenhouse.
How many years had it been since she had been to this place? Celes can’t remember anymore, but the moment she steps into the entrance, a rush of nostalgia washes over her. Quick glances around the greenhouse tell her that this place is still the same as it always had been, despite its owner’s abandonment of it some time ago. Out of all the flowers in the greenhouse, one section of fauna catches her attention immediately.
Roses.
Quickly, but quietly, she makes her way over to the bush of red roses as a soft smile appears on her face. Roses... Yes, they were Cid’s favourites, weren’t they? They were Celes’s favourites, too... Roses could mean so many things depending on the colour, but they always represented some form of affection.
Roses were beautiful and tough, as seen by their thorns, but they also had a gentleness about them...
Just like Celes... Or at least, that was what she had been told by Cid. Celes didn’t really see herself as beautiful or even gentle. She saw herself as a general that shouldn’t have feelings or be affected by the words of others but...
“ I guess we’re not so different, “ is all she says to the flower. Unlike these roses, however, Celes wasn’t just about to sit around and wait to whither. No, she was going to remain strong and find her friends. She had to, not just for herself, but for everyone else, too.

I’ve been asleep... For what feels like a long time.
[Is all she says at first. C’mon, Celes, give them more than that.]
And when I woke up, I was here. This place... Is not anywhere in my world.
What exactly is this place?
[Asking for help? Maybe, though, she’s not going to admit it.]
